Application Instructions

Please read these instructions carefully before beginning your application, as important information and details are highlighted below.

The following information applies to scholarships supported by the Willow Glen Education Foundation (WGED). WGED manages a variety of need and merit-based scholarships available to graduating *Willow Glen High School seniors. Specific eligibility requirements and a list of available scholarships are available here.

Scholarship Requirements

You can apply for as many scholarships as you qualify for. The information below will be used for all scholarships, but some may require additional details and requirements. 

1.

Application Deadline
All applications must be submitted 11:59pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.

2.

Essay Requirement (350-1000 words)
Submit an original essay addressing one or more of the following suggested topics:

  • Challenges or obstacles you have faced
  • Your education and career goals
  • What it means to be a positive member of a community

Important Notes: You may submit an essay previously written for a college application or class, or you may write a new one. The essay must be entirely your own original work. AI-generated essays will not be accepted. For questions regarding current AI policies, please refer to the SJUSD student handbook.

Include a copy of your transcript
(This must include your first semester of senior year.) 

Follow these steps to access your transcript:

  1. Once logged in, navigate to the Menu on the left and select Documents. 
  2. Scroll down to San Jose Custom Transcripts. 
  3. Important: Before attaching the file, block out your picture and name to ensure your application remains anonymous.

Helpful information to guide you in answering the application questions

  • Personal Accomplishments
    Share your accomplishments from high school and highlight your unique strengths. Be as detailed and specific as possible—thoughtful responses will help your application stand out.
  • School Activities
    List all school-sponsored activities you participated in during your time at WGHS. Include the year(s) of participation and any relevant details. Examples include Leadership, National Honor Society (NHS), Mock Trial, Drama, Band, Athletics, and more. Be sure to note any officer roles, leadership positions, or significant contributions.
  • Awards and Recognition
    List the name and year of any awards or recognitions you received while attending WGHS. These may include achievements in academics, athletics, community service, or other areas.
  • Advanced Placement, Honors, Accelerated, or College-Level Courses
    List any Advanced Placement (AP), honors, accelerated, or college-level courses you have completed at WGHS, online, or through a community college.
  • Community Volunteer Activities
    List all community service and volunteer activities you have participated in. Include service with organizations such as Willow Glen Cares, Sacred Heart, Relay for Life, or others.
  • Work Experience
    List your place(s) of employment, job responsibilities, average number of hours worked per week, and the duration of your employment at each position.

Future Education Plans
Please provide the following information:

  • Colleges, Universities, or Programs Applied To
    List the schools you have applied to and indicate your current status for each (accepted, not accepted, pending, or waitlisted).
  • Scholarships Awarded
    List any scholarships you have been awarded, either from the school you plan to attend or from other organizations.
  • Planned College or Program
    Indicate the two-year college, four-year college or university, or technical school you plan to attend, if known.
  • Intended Career Path or Field of Study
    Describe the career path or field of study you are considering.
