Willow Glen High School’s “Wish Upon a Star” event occurs every two years. It is a very impactful event on the campus that makes students and staff feel acknowledged and inspires other acts of kindness around campus.
Every WGHS student, teacher and staff member is given a “star” to write a wish, hoping it will be granted. The leadership students’ goal is to try to grant as many of the approximately 1800 wishes they receive as possible. The number of wishes granted is dependent on how much money is raised, so your donation is greatly appreciated!
What can be wished for?
Wishes can vary from simple wishes for a Starbucks to be delivered to the classroom, sports equipment, requests for books or computers to take breaks from their stressful lives, to having household utility bills paid, even some pets! As long as it is an appropriate request, anything can be wished for!
How are wishes collected and granted?
Paper stars are handed out to students in their 3rd period class. Students and teachers all write wishes on their stars, providing both a wish and an explanation of why they want the wish to be granted. Students also have the option of asking for wishes to be granted privately if they prefer.
Once all the stars are collected, leadership students will sort and then randomly select wishes to grant.
When does all of this happen?
Wishes were collected during Thanksgiving week in 2025 and the leadership team is already hard at work processing them.
Granting of the wishes is anticipated to be done in February and March, however the actual dates are still to be determined. Wishes may be granted during class, privately, or in front of the school at the Wish Upon a Star rally on February 6th, 2026.
